On
April 26th the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company held a program for
local Boy Scouts to assist them with earning their Fire
Safety Merit Badge. The program began
with a classroom discussion on fire-related topics and then divided into
groups to participate in several hands-on stations. The
Scouts were also given home assignments such as checking their
smoke detectors and creating a home fire safety escape plan and
practicing it.

The average life
expectancy of an apparatus is about twenty years but as Engine 5
approach-ed that milestone her chassis, motor and pump were
still in excellent shape, except for some corrosion of the body. The deteriorated
areas were repaired and the truck was completely repainted and a hydraulic lift for the ladder and hard-suction hose was
also installed. The refurbishment
of Engine 5 should add another five to ten years of life to this
apparatus which is a significant savings to the tax payer.

DIAL 911!
In Simsbury, dialing 911 gives you immediate access to the fire
department, police and EMS. Emergency calls may also be placed
via the red emergency phones located on the front of all of our
fire stations except Main Station as our dispatch center is
located there. For non-emergency calls you may
