CANDLE FIRE SAFETY
Reduce Your Risk of Fire

Do not leave a
burning candle unattended. |

Be sure the
candle is one foot away from anything that can burn. |

Keep candles away
from bedding, curtains and blinds, wallpaper, upholstered furniture,
piles of clothing, and newspapers and magazines. |

Do not place lit
candles in windows or near doorways, where drafts could bring
combustibles in contact with the flame.

Store matches,
lighters, and candles out of reach. |

Do not allow
children or teens to burn candles in their bedrooms. |

Do not allow
children to play with candles or dripping wax, or with combustible
materials near candles. |
Power Outages and
Candles
 |
Avoid using
candles in the event of a power outage for emergency lighting. |

If your power
goes out rely on flashlights or battery powered lamps. |
 |
If you must use a
candle do not carry it around your home. |
 |
Extinguish all
candles when you leave the home or when going to bed or getting
drowsy. |
Candles and the Holidays

Do not use
candles around holiday decorations. |
 |
Place candles
where they can not be bumped or knocked over. |

Keep candles away
from natural and artificial Christmas trees. |
Safe Candle Use
 |
Use candle
holders that are sturdy and will not tip over easily, and are made
of materials that will not burn and large enough to catch the
dripping wax. |

When lighting
candles be sure to be careful and keep
your hair and loose fitting clothing away from the flame. |
 |
Keep candle wicks
trimmed to one-quarter inch. |
 |
Extinguish
candles when they burn down to within two inches of their holder. |
