On May 8 2010, the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company hosted a town-wide Mass Casuality Disaster Drill on Iron Horse Boulevard in conjunction with other town agencies such as the Simsbury Police Department, Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance, town highway and town officials including Mayor Glassman. Also participating were mutal aid fire departments from Avon, Bloomfield, Bradley Airport FD, Burlington, Canton, Farmington, Lost Acres and the Regional Hazmat Team. This was an exercise to test our skills and process for a large scale disaster.
Multiple scenarios were set-up including hazmat, extrication, rescue and structure fire. Various divisions were set-up to mitigate each scenario such as a Hazmat Division which included the Regional Hazmat Team and an Aircraft Division to handle the simulated downed aircraft. There was also an Operations Division set-up and an EMS station to triage and treat the victims. The victims were town residents who volunteered to get made-up as victims with various injuries.
THANK YOU to all of the participating agencies and volunteers from Simsbury, Avon, Bloomfield, Bradley Airport FD, Burlington, Canton, Farmington, Lost Acres and the Regional Hazmat Team!
