The Simsbury
Volunteer Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary hosted our 11th
annual golf tournament on June 10th at Blue Fox Run Golf Course
in Avon, Connecticut. Skills challenges included a putting,
longest drive, hit-the-green and closest-to-the-pin contests. In one of
the pin contests, golfers could test their driving prowess against a
firefighter clad in full firefighting gear.
After the
tournament, participants relaxed under the tent and enjoyed the
cocktail hour. An excellent banquet dinner was followed by the awards ceremony. There was also
a silent auction and drawings
for raffle prizes, both of which featured
many fine items.
Proceeds from the
tournament benefit the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company and
Ladies Auxiliary, and help us support several charitable causes
such as the purchasing of safety, firefighting and educational
equipment, funding for the
Lieutenant Richard
Kelleher
Memorial Scholarship, funding for the "Burn Buddy" Program which
gives stuffed bears to children in local hospitals and
ambulances to cheer them up, and support for the
Connecticut Burns Care Foundation
that sponsors a summer camp for children who are burn victims.
The participation of the golfers and the generous support from
the donors allows us to continue to provide our services to the
community, and is very deeply appreciated.
