On the evening of May 19, 1988,
the Hayes General Store in East Hartland, Connecticut erupted in
flames. Mutual aid companies from the surrounding areas were
called in to help combat the fire. The Simsbury Volunteer Fire
Company responded with Tower 12 which set up in the front
of the structure, and Tanker 9 which supplied Tower 12
and was re-supplied through a water shuttle operation. Even
though the personnel on-scene worked to stem the blaze, the
town's only store perished in the fire.

This photo was published in Firehouse Magazine. The aerial is silhouetted by the inferno. With it's outriggers down and boom extended, Tower 12 tries to stem the blaze. Combined mutual aid personnel operate a hand line on the "A" side of the structure.
