The Simsbury Volunteer Fire
Company was dispatched to a two-car motor vehicle accident with
extrications needed at Hopmeadow Street and Westwood Drive on August 10, 2005. Two hose lines were
deployed to protect each vehicle in case of a fire, and crews
from
Rescue 14 and
Rescue 15 went to work to
free the trapped occupants. All victims were quickly removed and
transported to local hospitals by the Simsbury Volunteer
Ambulance Association.
While awaiting the Hurst tools, Firefighters Pete Juda and Mike Brown try using hand tools to pry open the vehicle's door. Probationary Firefighter Mindy Mathiason helps to deploy the Hurst tools. (L to R) Firefighters Fred Gordon, Milt McDonald and Michael McDonald man one of the two hose lines. Firefighter Mike Brown and Lieutenant Gary Wilcox use the spreaders to pry the driver's door from the frame. Firefighters and ambulance personnel prepare to remove one of the victims. Both vehicles involved sustained significant damage to the front driver's side. The second vehicle involved in the accident.
