HazMat 33 consists
of a tow vehicle and trailer. The 2006 Ford F-550 XL Super Duty
chassis features a turbo diesel V-8 engine, four-wheel drive,
five-man cab and an Omaha Standard service body for storage. For
small volume spill control this unit carries Speedy Dry and sand
for covering fluids on hard surfaces, containment pools to catch
fluid leaks, catch basin covers to prevent fluids from entering
storm drains, absorbent pads and other materials.
The twenty-four foot
TN trailer is equipped with a Onan 6500 watt generator which
powers internal lighting, heat and air conditioning. Some of the
equipment carried on this trailer includes Level A and Level B
hazmat suits and other associated protective clothing, full
decontamination station with hot water shower, detectors and
test kits for substances such as radiation, nerve agents,
mercury, and other various chemicals, over-pack drums and drum
repair kit, and a portable weather station and hand-held
anemometers.
HazMat 33 was
received through the Capitol Region Council of Governments from
a grant by the Department of Homeland Security. Several
participating towns comprise the Capitol Region Hazmat Response
Team and HazMat 33 is one of four units which CRCOG received.
While HazMat 33 must always be ready to respond regionally it
will be frequently utilized locally, much to the benefit of
Simsbury.

The rear of the trailer features a fold-down door and air-lock. Equipment for mitigating hazardous materials incidents. A portable Hot Tap Pro 70 can provide instant hot water for decontamination showering. 6500 watts of electricity is supplied by an Onan generator.
